SAFARI LODGES

7 DAYS UGANDA PRIMATES AND WILDLIFE FLYING ITINERARY

The safari takes you through three Ugandan national parks. It starts from Kibale Forest, a tropical rainforest with thirteen species of primate which gives you the chance to track the noisy chimpanzee families racing through this verdant forest, as well as other primates such as the black and white colobus monkeys, Red tailed monkeys, L’Hoest monkeys among others. From the Bigodi Wetland, a nature walk through the trail may reward you with seeing many forests and swamp birds such as the Blue Turaco, Black casques hornbills, Black and White Hornbills, Yellow Backed Weavers, Wagtails, Cuckoos, Woodland Kingfishers, Flycatchers, Manikins among others.

The safari will then take you to the Queen Elizabeth National Park. Located on the savannah plains below the Rwenzori, the park boosts of the great game of Africa which include elephants, lions, buffaloes, hippos and leopards. From Kyambura gorge track our closest primate cousins- the fast moving and elusive chimpanzees. A hunt for the tree-climbing lions lounging on old fig trees is another omissible activity.
At Bwindi Impenetrable national park you will track the endangered mountain gorillas from the tropical moist forest. In Bwindi there are four habituated families of the gorillas. Looking deep into the expressive brown eyes of these gentle giants is surely the most exciting and unforgettable experience you cannot afford to miss. Other activities to be carried out include nature walks to see birds, monkeys and orchids.

Day 1: Kampala-Kibale Forest NP

Our guide will meet you and brief you about the safari. You will then drive to Fort Portal passing via Mityana-Mubende road. Make a stop over in Mubende to visit the Nakayima tree. Have picnic lunch en route and continue to Kibale forest national park. You will arrive late afternoon, check in and relax at the lodge or explore the nearby Crater Lake. Dinner and Overnight at Ndali Lodge/Mantana Kibale/Forest Tree Campsite.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Tracking
Wake up early for chimpanzee tracking and move with your parked lunch to the forest. The destination guide will take you through tree identification, as well as telling you the different features of the forest. After having lunch, take an afternoon nature walk through the Bigodi swamp to see swamp birds, primates as well as some of the community Based projects financed by tourism. Dinner and Overnight at Ndali/Mantana Kibale.

Day 2: Queen Elizabeth National park

Depart for Queen Elizabeth national park which is located in the foothills of the Mountains of the moon, one of the great mountain ranges of the world. As you continue to the park you may see different animals and birds given that the park has got about 100 mammal species and a remarkable 606 bird species. Dinner and Overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge/Jacana Lodge

Day 3: Chimpanzee tracking and Launch cruise.

Take an early morning excursion to Kyambura gorge and track the fast moving and elusive chimpanzees. Though seeing these mobile chimpanzees is un predictable the walk is wonderful given the different features of the forest. Alternatively, you will visit the Maramagambo Forest where you will see the bat cave, the blue lake and several primates. In the afternoon take a launch cruise on the Kazinga Channel. This will give you a chance to see many hippos, solitary buffaloes, and a vast array of birds. Then have an evening game drive in the park. Dinner and Overnight at Mweya safari Lodge /Jacana Lodge.

Day 4: Bwindi Impenetrable

Get an early start for Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, passing either via Ishasha, well known for the tree climbing lion, or through an alternative route passing through cultivated expanses. After lunch, go for a nature walk or a community visit. Dinner and Overnight at Buhoma.

Day 5: Gorilla Tracking

You will have an early breakfast, move with your packed and then proceed to the forest for gorilla tracking. Encountering the largest and heaviest primates is an adventurous and memorable activity which can’t be easily erased on your mind. Tracking from Bwindi involves walking up steep densely forested hills; therefore some fitness may be required. After having lunch take a leisurely nature or community walk if time permits. Dinner and Overnight at Buhoma.

Day 6: Return to Kampala

After breakfast return for Kampala having lunch enroute.
