CULTURAL SAFARIS

Uganda is a country of many contrasts. Apart from the mesmerising lakes and rivers, evergreen virgin and unpolluted forests, Uganda is a cultural melting point of Africa. With her many different cultures and traditions, Uganda is one of the best heritage destinations that you must visit while on holiday in Africa. Uganda offers a wealth of ancient traditional sites and Kingdoms, rhythmic African music that differs amongst the 52 tribes within its boundaries, fascinating folklore and tribal customs that are practised still in the same way as they were practised many centuries ago.

Uganda’s cultural history has been preserved for quite long. The richness and dynamicity of Ugandan culture which dates back from the 14th century when the interlucustrine kingdoms were formed indeed make Uganda the centre for African Culture on the whole continent. Ugandan People are much welcoming, very hospitable and receptive to foreign travellers.

While on a visit within Uganda, you can visit different cultural sites which include Kasubi Tombs, a UNESCO world heritage site, the Uganda Museum, Uganda Martyrs Shrine, Namugongo martyrs where 22 catholic Ugandan martyrs as well as a number of other Moslems and protestant martyrs were killed and burnt to ashes by the popular Ssekabaka Mwanga of Buganda.

Other cultural sites in Uganda include Kingdoms: Buganda, Bunyoro, Busoga,Tooro and Ankole, a number of worshipping centres for African Traditionalists that combine both culture and religion, Karugutu (Fort-Portal) – Tooro kings’ burial site, the Nkokonjeru (Mbarara) – Ankole kings’ burial site, Nagalabi (Budo)– Buganda coronation ground, the Kabaka’s Lake – the biggest man-dug lake in East Africa among others.
