SAFARI LODGES
Rwanda is one of the favourite tourist destination in central Africa. Also known as the "the Land of a Thousand Hills" Rwanda supports a variety of wild fauna and fauna species thus making it a superb tourist destination! Rwanda today has three main conservation areas where wildlife safaris can be taken. Each of these parks protects a combination of large mammals sought after by many safari holiday makers. Akagera National Park supports a typical savannah fauna dominated by a variety of antelope, as well as other grazers such as zebra, buffalo and giraffe, aquatic hippopotamus, and plains predators such as lions, leopards and spotted hyena.
Nyungwe Forest and the Volcanoes Park on the other hand support a similar range of large mammals which are majorly bamboo specialists. These include the endangered mountain gorillas, the golden monkeys, as well as relic populations of habitat-tolerant species such as buffaloes and elephants. Nyungwe Forest National park supports one of Africa's richest varieties of forest specialists, ranging from 13 types of primate to golden cats, duikers and hiant forest hogs.
In terms of culture and people, Rwanda is one of the richest cultural destination in Africa. People have lived for many years in Rwanda, remains are found from even as early as the iron-age! The first people to stay were the pygmies or Twa. Around 700 BC the farmers; Hutu, came looking for fertile land. The Twa became a minority. Then around the 10th century the cattle keepers: Tutsis came, tall and lean people who soon dominated the other inhabitants and they formed a strong kingdom under the rule of the Muami (king). These groups of people form the population of today's Rwandese Society and their culture is filled with a lot of interesting attributes which include Music, Dance and Drama, festivities, Cultural norms and Traditions etc
Despite of the past conflicts in Rwanda, the semblace of peace over the last decade as well as its biodiversity make Rwanda not only a retreat destination but also the best tourist destination for game viewing, gorilla tracking while Nyungwe Forest offers visitors a good chance to see chimps and 400 troops of colobus monkeys-the largest arboreal primate troops in Africa today!
