Lying on the edge of the Western Rift valley (Albertine rift) Bwindi Impenetrable Gorilla Park park occupies different vegetation zones but predominantly a tropical rain forest. It is one of the few remaining forests in Africa to have flourished throughout the last Ice Age. Bwindi Impenetrable national park is home to roughly half of the world's mountain gorillas (326 gorillas). In the World today, it is estimated that there are only 700 remaining mountain gorillas. Apart from the rare mountain gorillas, the park also has over 120 mammalian species including 11 primates, 200 species of butterflies and about 324 different tree species.More on Bwindi and the Mountain Gorillas
Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is the smallest park at just 33sq km and it is located in the far south western part of Uganda bordering Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Mgahinga is one of the most dramatic park, it covers the northern slopes of the three among the six Virunga Volcanoes: Mt. Gahinga (3,474 m), Mt. Muhavura (4,127 m), and Mt. Sabiny (3,645 m). Kibale National park is located near the foothills of the Mountains of the Moon in western Uganda and occupies an area of 795 sq km. It is the most accessible of Uganda's major tropical rainforests. Kibale forest national park is home to a remarkable 13 primate species with both nocturnal and diurnal species. These include chimpanzees, the localized red colobus monkey, L'Hoest's monkey, black and white colobus monkey, pottos, Guereza Colobus, Olive Baboon, Grey-cheeked Mangabeys, and Red-tailed Monkeys among others. Kidepo Valley National park is located in the north- Eastern part of Uganda, 700km from Kampala and it is tucked between the borders of Uganda, Kenya and Sudan. It covers an area of 1,442 sq km. It lies in the rugged, semi-arid valleys of Karamoja province, and those that make the long journey north would agree that it is the most magnificent park. The park harbours scenery unsurpassed in any other park of East Africa as well as great numbers of fauna and floral species. More on Kidepo Valley National Park
Lake Mburo National park is located in the southern part of Uganda in the present Kiruhura district. The park covers an area of 260 sq km.It was named after the famous Lake Mburo which is found inside the park. The park harbours several fauna species which cannot easily be found elsewhere in Uganda. These include Zebras, common duikers, Impala, Bohor reedbuck, Buffaloes, and birds. Lake Mburo is recorded as the best place in the country where you can see the gigantic eland antelope, as well as zebra, topi, impala, and several acacia-associated birds. The park is located in the south western part of Uganda and covers an area of 1,978 sq km. This is the most popular national park in Uganda with abundant game and attracts thousands of tourists interested in viewing big game. Its vegetation which varies from open savannah to rainforest, from dense papyrus swamps and brooding crater lakes to the vastness of Lake Edward, make it a little wonder that it is the highest biodiversity conservation game reserve in the world. Semuliki National Park was gazetted in October 1993 making it one of Uganda's newest National Parks. It occupies a flat to gently undulating landform ranging from 670 -760 metres above level. This park harbours a large number of predominantly Central African species which cannot be found anywhere else in East Africa and these include some of the continent's most spectacular and sought-after birds such as; Long-tailed Hawk, Congo Serpent Eagle, Lyre-tailed Honey guide Black-wattled Hornbill and the Nkulengu Rail. This is the largest amongst all national parks in Uganda. It protects a variety of untamed African savannah and most of the tourists who visit Uganda’s national parks have proved that it is the hottest safari destination in Uganda. Murchsion Falls National Park got its name from the dramatic Murchison Falls which are found within the park. These falls are spectacular and are formed at a point where the world's longest river explodes through a narrow gorge and flows down to become a river.It's banks are thronged with hippos, crocodiles,waterbucks and buffalloes. The park is located in the western part of Uganda on the border of Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The park has an area of 998 sq km and was named after the famous Rwenzori Mountains which is also referred to as the legendary “Mountains of the Moon." Rwenzori Mountain is one of Africa's tallest mountain range with an elevation of 5,109m. The Rwenzori range has 6 major peaks which include, Mt Stanley (5,109m), Mt Speke (4,890m) Mt Baker (4,843m), Mt Emin (4,798m), Mt Gessi (4,715m) and Mt Luigi di Savoia (4,627m)

The park is located near Mbale in the Eastern part of Uganda. It covers 1,145 sq km and was named after Mt Elgon (4,321m), an extinct Volcanic Mountain that lies on the border of Uganda and Kenya. In the ancient times this mountain stood taller than Kilimanjaro Mountain, which is the highest mountain in East Africa. The Mountain is shared by Uganda and Kenya but its highest peak Wagagai peak (4321m) lies in Uganda. The mountain has got three other major peaks which are Kiongo (4303m), Mubiyi (4210m) and Jackson’s summit (4165m). More on Mt Elgon National Park
